39. Jacoba Fischer19 was born on 5 April 1890 in rural Holland, Hickman, Lancaster County, Nebraska area. She was baptized in May 1890 in the Holland Reformed Church, Holland, Hickman, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She completed her elementary education at Lancaster County Public Schools, District 20, "Wooden Shoe" located at 176th street and Firth road in rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She died on 20 December 1965 at the age of 75 in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She was buried in the Pella cemetery, Pella, rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. She was active in the community and served as a mid wife at many births in the area.
Jacoba Fischer and Benjamin DeRoe were married on 19 January 1910 at the home of the bride in the Pella community, rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska. Benjamin DeRoe, son of Elsa B. DeRoo and Jsiena (Gesena) Dehaan, was born on 25 April 1891 in Borculo, Ottowa County, Michigan. He left Michigan with his family and came to Nebraska at an early age by train, riding in a cattle car because they could not afford a ticket. Their name was changed from DeRoo to De Roe shortly after his mothers marriage to John Languis.
From 1910 to his retirement he was a farmer in The Pella Community, Rural Adams, Lancaster, Nebraska, United States. He was a self taught carpenter, and most of the buildings on the Otoe county farm were built or remodeled by him. He died on 1 December 1974 at the age of 83 at Lakeview Nursing home, in Firth, Lancaster County, Nebraska. He was buried on 4 December 1974 in the Pella cemetery, Pella, rural Adams, Lancaster County, Nebraska.
They started married life on a rented farm located at highway 43 and Pella road, NE corner which is across the corner from the Pella, church. They later rented a farm located at the Otoe County line and Pella road SE corner. Their daughter Thelma was born here. In 1916 they purchased 160 acres from Sherman Walker which was across the road from where they were living, at the northeast corner of Pella road and the Otoe County line. Ruth, Garetta and Bernice were born here and all their children were raised on this farm. They later sold this farm and purchased an 80 acre farm on highway 43 near Panama, Lancaster County, Nebraska. They sold this farm and their farm equipment, bought a house in Adams, Gage County, Nebraska and lived there in retirement until Jacoba died. Ben continued living in Adams until he suffered a broken hip and was unable to care for himself. He then moved into the Lakeview retirement center in Firth, Lancaster County, Nebraska. and lived there the remainder of his life.
They were lifelong members and active in the Pella Reformed Church, Pella, Adams, Lancaster County,Nebraska.
